CHA'KWAINA

All items listed here are made by a member of the Waccamaw Indian People of South Carolina, unless very clearly marked.  Much love and pride goes into each piece. Handcrafted items are never, ever to perfection but I do my very best to get there. This is part of the charm of handcrafted items.

I do items as the Spirit and Heart lead me to. I do use patterns for many things but not all and even then, my work is not exactly like the pattern.

Please contact me with any questions about my products, work or with special requests.

As you can see by my catalog and previous work,  I do many different types of work in various mediums. You can also see my work here.

I am working on several book ideas, one of which is a cookbook.

Come back often to see the new items being added.

If you would like to see examples of my work, not listed here, please visit the previous items page.

SHIPPING--I ship by USPS Priority Flat Rate with Delivery Confirmation.

PAYMENT--I accept and prefer PayPal. You may also pay with a Visa or MasterCard Debit card or most major credit cards via PayPal. I also accept money orders but they MUST be POSTAL money orders or a Certified Check from your bank.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT CHA'KWAINA

The majority of the items sold here are things that I, Mary Ellen (hereinafter referred to as Cha'kwaina) have made.

At times I will sell supply items, items made by my children, or items I have acquired that I believe you may derive more benefit from.

Just because the items do not fit your idea of what a "Native American" or "Indian" would make, please take a second look. Just because I am very much an "Indian" or "Native American" does not mean I am "stuck in the past."

I can promise that if you will look through these pages you will find jewelry that is both unique & contemporary. Something for almost any occasion.

MY HERITAGE

I have Waccamaw blood from my Mother and also Lumbee. I am a member of the Waccamaw, as are all of my children.

My Father's great grandmother was noted in census records as "Indian" and "Mulatto". Her name was Sarah Susan (Walker) Reeves. She was from Hickman County, Tennessee and was most likely Choctaw or Cherokee. An Elder that just passed has shown me that she was on the Dawe's Rolls as Cherokee.

ABOUT ME

Born in Virginia in 1967 I spent much time in the state of North Carolina. My favorite spot being Salter Path, an island of the Outer Banks.

I now reside in Bon Aqua, Tennessee with my husband, Dave.

I enjoy reading, learning, making things, camping, cooking, spending time with family & friends, creating things, & camping.
